Get it through your head McCain, Czechoslovakia doesn't exist!!!

Tue Jul 15, 2008 at 03:18:35 PM PDT

As a proud descendant of Bohemian ancestry (now the Czech Republic), I'm quite alarmed that the man who might be our next president is living in the past when it comes to dealing with Europe. Specifically with the Czech Republic.

And when I say living in the past, I mean literally. 20 years in the past.

For the second straight day, John McCain has discussed his policy towards... Czechoslovakia. Yes, the one that hasn't existed for over 15 years.

Netroots Nation ticket for sale

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 02:30:06 PM PDT

I know this is last minute, but I have a health emergency with a dear friend and I am not going to be able to attend Netroots Nation in Austin next week.

They are on sale for $375 on their official website right now, but I am willing to sell for far below that.

BTW, this is totally acceptable with the Netroots Nation folks, and should be quite easy to transfer.

KY-Sen: McConnell still in panic mode, cites favortie push poller

Wed May 28, 2008 at 04:24:14 PM PDT

(crossposted at Barefoot and Progressive)

As I noted yesterday, the McConnell campaign started desperately whining about the new Rasmussen poll showing Lunsford with a slight lead over Mitch (despite Rasmussen being one of the most respected independent pollsters in the biz). But in an email just sent out to supporters, Mitch starts in on the whining himself. Not only is he trotting out his old NRSC buddy Jennifer Duffy to criticize the poll, he's also trotting out his favorite (and Bush's favorite) hack/push poller, Jan van Lohuizen.

(KY-Sen): McConnell campaign in full panic mode

Tue May 27, 2008 at 05:05:41 PM PDT

(crossposted at Barefoot and Progressive)

The McConnell campaign is now officially in full panic mode.

In the wake of the devastating independent polling by Rasmussen showing Mitch McConnell five points behind Democrat Bruce Lunsford (49-44%), the McConnell campaign resorted t0 the classic tactic of a desperate campaign- the bogus "internal poll" showing happy numbers.

Geoff(erson) Davis' racist comment, and the pathetic excuses of the KY right

Mon Apr 14, 2008 at 05:49:11 PM PDT

(crossposted at Barefoot and Progressive)

As you've surely heard by now, Geoff Davis referred to Barack Obama as "boy" over the weekend, the long-time racist code word for blacks. Today he issued his "apology".

The right-wingers are already mounting their pathetic response, excusing this insulting remark.

I was walking through the University of Kentucky's campus today and ran upon a little demonstration in front of the classroom building. There were about 20 huge pictures of bloody fetuses, along with "Stop the Genocide" signs.

If you know me well, you know... well.... I can't resist.

Condi Rice: some things never change

I discovered this way back in grad school back in 2003, but I'm not sure if anyone else has blogged about this. (if someone did, my apologies, I couldn't find it on google). Anyway, I thought I'd stop procrastinating and actually get this post up once and for all.

John McCain and Mitch McConnell: frenemies forever

Sat Feb 09, 2008 at 05:39:04 PM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

Thursday, Mitch McConnell spoke at the uber-right wing CPAC conference, where Ann Coulter regularly refers to people as "ragheads" and "faggots", to the delight and laughter of those in attendance.

National Journal's fuzzy math on Obama, the "most liberal senator"

Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 08:02:10 PM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

For the second time in the last two presidential elections, National Journal has ranked a leading Democratic candidate for the presidency as the "most liberal" member of the United States Senate. In 2004, National Journal declared that John Kerry was the liberal member of the US Senate, referring to him as the more liberal senator for Massachusetts. They also identified Kerry's running mate John Edwards as the 4th most liberal member. These rankings were cited both by members of the media and by the Bush/Cheney campaign.

The problem is that they were wrong. And they are wrong now, too.

KY-Sen: Exh. A: Why Andrew Horne will beat McConnell

Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 01:53:59 PM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

Why will Andrew Horne beat Mitch McConnell? Because he will not just win over people in Louisville and Lexington. He will win over rural voters. People like Tim Havrilek.

Havrilek (possible Czech brother?) commented yesterday about how he was going to hear Horne speak in Hopkinsville that night. He was quite skeptical of Horne, but eager to find out more about him. Havrilek, as you can tell from his blog, is probably a little right of center, though not a far right-winger.

Havrilek saw Horne, and was quite impressed.

KY-Sen: Military families are turning on Republicans, McConnell

Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 12:44:02 AM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

In light of Mitch McConnell's despicable comments last week about our military deaths, its worth noting this story from the LA Times last Friday on how Republicans are hemorrhaging support from the military. Check out these numbers from the Bloomberg/LA Times poll conducted Nov. 30th to Dec. 3rd of active military, veterans and their family:

Ensign/McConnell continue to block campaign finance transparency bill

Put yourself in Mitch McConnell's shoes. One of your chief concerns, besides your lack of lips, are those snooping citizens, bloggers and journalists who look up who your donors are that fill up your campaign war chest. That really screws up everything. Once they find this out, they're able to trace connections between this and those juicy federal earmarks that you give out. (screw the Club for Growth, you LOVE big gov't pork).

The Historic Obstruction of Senator McFilibuster

Mon Dec 03, 2007 at 11:19:46 PM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

Mitch McConnell is currently employing the most cynical and selfish of tactics within the Senate. Mitch finds himself faced with a minority in the House and Senate, where much progressive legislation has passed in the House and been supported by 50+% in the Senate.

But this would certainly make Democrats look good, as they promised to raise the minimum wage, expand health care and shift course in Iraq. And they have had the votes to pass such legislation.

KY-Sen: My interview with Lt. Col. Andrew Horne

Mon Nov 26, 2007 at 07:36:36 AM PDT

(crossposted at BlueGrassRoots)

Lt. Col. Andrew Horne, potential 2008 challenger to Senator Mitch McConnell, was kind enough to answer some questions that I had for him. The questions range from Iraq and veterans affairs, to civil liberties and torture. There is also a discussion of the performance of McConnell and the Democratic Congress, as well as his possible candidacy next year. If you like what you see, there is a petition to draft him into the race at DraftHorne.org. Here is the transcript:
