Hi all from the Governor's Ballroom at the Austin Hilton downtown...
Things move so fast here, it's difficult to find time to write it down (I'm not bored, or a fast typist like clammy or spoon...
There's so much energy in the room... They've just introduced the four Dems out to take congressional seats in my fair state of CA.
Steve Young CA-48
Charlie Brown CA-04
Russ Warner CA-26
Mike Lumpkin CA-52
I left my camera cord back in my hotel room, so unless I can convince DH to go fetch it, I'll have to post to Flickr later. The room is much larger than the room they used for this event last year... and there's food too. Lots of great hors d'oeuvres.
Dear Sadie Townsel, Melody's daugher (my new best friend) was keeping me company, she went to go swimming.
So folks, can we send these good people to give Barack the support he'll need to get anything done in the morass they call DC? I am struck with the realization of how much of life these candidates are donating to our cause...
... and act on.
The infamous Phase II of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence investigation of the run-up to the Iraq war has just been released.
The Obama campaign currently has 69 offices in North Carolina and Indiana staffed by high-quality, dedicated, selfless people contributing to the amazing effort to install a transparent, open executive to help our nation get back on track. Let's show them their efforts are not unnoticed.
On Monday night, let's make sure each one of these offices receives a food delivery from a DailyKos reader. Are there a few good Kossacks ready, able, and willing to feed these brave warriors? Yes we can!

[Idea was nurtured by GN1927, this is her baby... I am just the babysitter]
Please help me pass it on!

From SaveTheInternet.com:
... It is rare for all five members of the Federal Communications Commission to leave Washington, D.C., and they want to hear from you. There will be a public comment period* - come speak up to save the Internet!
WHAT: Public Hearing on the Future of the Internet
WHEN: Thursday, April 17th
TIME: 12:00pm to 7:00pm
WHERE: Dinkelspiel Auditorium, Stanford University
(471 Lagunita Drive, Palo Alto, CA)*The press about this meeting says no onsite public comments, not sure which is which here... but you can submit comments prior to the meeting to be considered--instructions below.
Happy birthday, Roe v Wade... You're 35 today. You're not that old, just entering middle age, but I'm afraid for your health.
I understand I may be setting myself up for who-knows-what by asking this this question "out loud" here, but I am really curious to read your thoughtful opinions. I infrequently diary, and this is is not the type of diary I usually do (she says with her knees shaking) but I would really like to see this discussion.
(possibly ;-)
I just wanted to alert everyone that the NewsHour on PBS interviewed me and John/the awful truth at the convention, and I think we did okay. I told them if it had been any other outlet, I would have declined ;-)
Any way, the correspondent said if we make it past the cutting room, it will air on today's broadcast, which here on KQED 9 is at 3pm and 6pm (PDT), 3pm is also broadcast on KQED/NPR 88.5 fm at 3pm.
I'm sitting here listening to Dr. Giuseppe Del Priore speaking about the "theater of the absurd" experiences he deals with every day at New York Downtown Hospital, with regards to health insurance companies. I belive he is the doctor friend nyceve refers to in her wonderful diaries... he is the first panel speaker to speak, this after a heart-rending short film about a mother who died way before her time because she lost her health insurance and had to stop chemotherapy.
Had to stop treatment to keep living. Not because it was not covered, or experimental, or anything like that. Just because she lost insurance coverage, and after her family finished selling off everything they could, and family/friends were tapped out, and she couldn't beg for change at the side of the road anymore, this once-middle class wife and mother of two died.
[please bear with my second attempt at a live diary ;-) ]
I am sitting in the panel discussion A View from Washington: Winning a Better Media for Everyone at YearlyKos, with FCC Commissioner Michael Copps. His talk got a standing ovation from a lot of us, and I wanted to let dKos know about some of the major points he made, especially the call for the public to oppose the pending merger of Dow Jones/WSJ and NewsCorp...
Copps called this action and the overall issue of media consolidation necessary to keeping our democracy alive.
The commissioner also said he "had a feeling" that a big push for further smoothing the way for further consolidation, especially in the online realm, will come sooner rather than later, hence the sense of urgency in his call. He is trying to make sure we are prepared.
I am here in Europe, working on posting more vacation photos and what pops up on CNN International but the White House's Fran "What's her name" announcing the release of a new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) which says that Al Qaeda does not like us and are increasing their efforts to hurt us
Hmmmm. Really...
WELCOME, NEW TRUTH SEEKERS!!!!!!! 1 !!!!!
I found this CHILLING site (thanks to my Good Morning Silicon Valley email newsletter I get every weekday morning) and boy AM I GLAD I DID!
Something just DIDN'T SIT RIGHT with the story I saw unfold that Sunday afternoon, while talking with some friends over for a BARBECUE (a barbecue!!!!). In the back of my mind there was this small voice saying "There is more to this story, THIS IS NOT just another 'accident' here..." as I watched the FLAMES SEARING what would be our dinner... hmmm... why was I DRIVEN TO BARBECUE? On the SAME DAY!

Reading the site 4/29truth.com crystallized my uneasiness, turning it into full-blown paranoia and a sudden urge to find a roll of foil fear for THE FATE OF OUR NATION!
"We don't seem to be making much progress pulling together intelligence on links between Iraq and al Qaeda," Wolfowitz wrote in the Jan. 22, 2002, memo to Douglas Feith, the department's No. 3 official.
Using Pentagon jargon for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, he added: "We owe SecDef some analysis of this subject. Please give me a recommendation on how best to proceed. Appreciate the short turn-around."
LA Times/SF Chronicle
MoveOn.org is organizing rallies against the escalation for this Thursday. You can click here to find a rally near you (just enter your zip code, ignore the one that is in there as it is mine), and if there is no rally planned near you, please try to take the time to organize a rally.
Why should you attend a rally? Why should you organize one? Because we live in a free country, a country in which we have the right to protest that which we disagree with, because we have the right to speak out, because we must use these rights and speak loud and strong against Bush and his escalation.
Oh my, now I am awake again!
So many worked for this... thank you all for this wonderful feeling tonight. I know I would have never had the experience of helping at all (even the little bit I did) without this place.
Thanks Kid Oakland, hope you are awake to enjoy this too. Land of Enchantment wrote diary after diary about the fool that just got defeated... And all the cool people who don't come here, too, thanks.

Reid just said on Ed Shultz that there will be NO FILIBUSTER... so if you want to call your senator to express your anger... damn, damn...

Reid has stated on the radio that there is no filibuster. I am now reading that we were 2 votes short which means we lost 5 dems... 5 dems who wouldn't go along... what shall we do to them, folks?
I can't belive this. There is no excuse, no fucking excuse. I am speechless now...

Simultaneously on the House and Senate Floor right now they are debating the Military Commissions Act of 2006, the bill the suspends habeas corpus and legalizes torture. This is turning point in America. Both the House and Senate Bills have been rushed forward with minimal debate.
