In my nearly 30 years of voting I have never voted for any politician that didn't have a D after there name. Republican? Forget it. Independant? Not a shot. I subscribed to the notion that
"we" had to have D's in political positions to keep the r's from pushing their agenda forward. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore. It will probably be nearly impossible to defeat these entrenched politicians but they're not looking after the national interest anyway.
I don’t know if anyone will read this diary, but if you do could you be so kind as to comment whether you feel as I do? Because for quite some time now I’ve had this giant pit gnawing at my stomach and I’m just curious if others feel as I do.
I'm pretty sure most of the people perusing this site know Jim Kunstler. Reading his essay every Monday morning is surely a bucket of ice water right to the face-a real sobering read. He's been predicting a collapse of our "American way of life" for quite some time now, and it's looking like its coming sooner rather than later.
My local paper-The Syracuse Post Standard has written an extremely credulous editorial crediting Jim Walsh with "breaking" with Mr. Bush on the war in Iraq. If you are so inclined you can read this editorial here.
I'm really not sure how The P/S came to this conclusion.
I rarely post diaries here, there are so many great writers I don't feel I have much to contribute, in terms of writing smart literate diaries. However I feel compelled to post a diary on the winter we are having here.
I'm 45 and have lived in central New York my entire life, in the recesses of my memory I can remember the blizzard of '66. I can remember winter after winter with mountains of snow and bitter cold. I can remember enough snow to build snow tunnels in the drifts. Looking back I can definitely say that things began to moderate in the early 80's.
Now we still have plenty of precipitation here, however much of it is rain and if we do have extended periods of snow it invariably melts as the temperature promptly begins to rise. But this year hoo-boy today it was 60 degrees 60!!! The temperature this week has not fallen below 50 the entire week!! It has barely dropped below freezing this year. You'd have to live here to understand how unprecedented this is.
Well we here in NY25 came this || close to getting rid of james walsh. Alas it was not to be. But I think we have a chance to still get him next time around.
Does Mr. walsh gain any humility out of this near debacle for him? One would hope, however that is too much to ask from these career politicians now a days.
A Syracuse Post-Standard reporter penned an article on the election in which Mr. walsh claims to have a "hole" in his heart, taking the residents of Syracuse and NY25 to task for not voting for him in droves, as they have in the past. You wanna read a profile in arrogance go here, god what a tool. A PS columnist penned a response to Mr. walsh, which can be read here
Good God I'm having heart palpitations!!! OK, not really but I wouldn't be surprised if NY 25 ends up in a recount.
Update [2006-11-8 0:16:19 by SteveLCo]:
With all the "regular" votes counted Mr. Maffei is down by 3943 but there are 13000 absentee ballots. Mr. Maffei still has a chance here this won't be decided for at least a week.
Since I only get 1 diary a day I'm going to jump around a bit here just so I get a chance to vent, I hope that's ok.
Jesus effing christ how much longer is this shit going to be allowed on tv? The first time I decide to watch anything, I get to watch some asshole on Hardball say the jihadists want dems to win.
I'm effin' furious, probably more pissed than I've been since Nov '04. It looks like a majority of Democrats are going to vote for this egregious torture bill-expecting it to help them in the up coming elections. They never learn.
I gave well over $500 dollars to various candidates in the '04 election cycle, and was bitterly disappointed in the results. I just finished reading this post from Arianna and am completely pissed off.
Ok, so I'm watching Imus and just now I have to listen to that wanker Ford say "Joe Lieberman is a Democrat", he essentially declined to support the real democrat in the CT race. What a dick.
Also it's 7AM here in the east and Imus said LIEberman is going to be on his show in the 8 o'clock hour-if anyone wants to hear some real shit.
I know there were several diaries on the Prudhoe Bay oil field shut down, but I didn't see any that discussed something I read in the paper just this morning. I think BP may have had an another motive in shutting this thing down. If this has already been discussed let me know and I'll delete this.
I did a search on this story but didn't find anything. If I missed it please let me know and I'll delete this. Hil's my senator, but Christ the more I see how she operates, the more I'm disappointed in her. The latest disappointment can be read about here
Well I've read plenty on this site about the need of our party to take over at least 1 house of Congress in this election cycle and fwiw I also believe that. However I've also read plenty on this site where diarists/commenters believe this will allow the dems to halt the more egregious excesses of this admin, conduct hearings and maybe even initiate proceedings to remove this shrub....
This issue perfectly defines the real argument between the netroots and the establishment. We want to engage the opposition head on and they simply refuse. It is not about policy, although there is plenty to discuss on that count. It is about enabling criminal, radical, undemocratic politics to go unchecked in the name of some sort of bipartisan comity that only Joe Lieberman and his friends at the Democratic Leadership Council believe still exists. It's about not letting Lucy pull the football away again.
Let's engage the enemy, Digby points out that Clinton's reward for his attempt at bi-partisanhip was impeachment. Fuck these turds, the dem pols need to go after them.
I know in the greater scheme of things a diary about a show based on the 70's certainly isn't all that important, but please allow me an indulgence. I'll delete this if it is a problem.
I was born in 1961 and with the last episode of "That 70's Show" airing tonight, I thought this was a good time to write this diary. I am definitely child of the 70's and frankly can't believe over 26 years have passed since the end of that decade. (BTW when I heard this was going to be the last season I thought the only way they can end it is have an episode taking place on Dec 31 1979 and woo-hooo!!! I was right...)
