"All I've got to do is, be happy" - Aloha, George Harrison

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 03:40:21 PM PDT

It was 65 years ago today when Louise and Harold Harrison welcomed George to the world in Liverpool, England.

I hadn't realized how much I missed George until I listened to Mana`o Radio's tribute today. The guy just had a knack for playing sweet melodies and singing with a sincerity that really made you believe in peace and love.

As a Maui resident, I feel a special sense of pride. George lived here on the Valley Isle for most of his post-Beatles life. To celebrate George's birthday and his life, I've posted some videos below.

Mana`o Radio, by the way, is the best commercial-free eclectic music station in the world and can be heard online live from Maui 24 hours a day:

"Blow Away" from his 1979 self-titled album (this is the song that gave me chicken skin when I heard it on Mana`o today and convinced me to write this diary):

"Give Me Love" (live in Japan circa 1992; Mana`o played this version today):

"Here Comes the Sun" & "Homeward Bound" (with Paul Simon on Saturday Night Live):

"If Not for You" (with Bob Dylan in Bangladesh):

"Absolutely Sweet Marie" (covering his friend Bob Dylan, as he loved to do):

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (an amazing tribute, featuring Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Dhani Harrison):

Mahalo and aloha, George.
