The American-Roman Empire is all around us

If you haven't read kos FP post about what Phillip Atkinson, recently published on a Website called "Family Security Matters", go do so. When your hair stops standing on end come back here. Bring some strong scotch or some Valium.

He is not the only one, nor the looniest one. He is just the more outspoken.

Sure enough, a quick google founds this Heritage foundation 2005 lecture

The Lessons of the Roman Empire for America Today

Heritage Lecture #917

But surely it is just an over the top historical metaphor, right ? Think again, it is so ingrained in neocon's reason to be that it shows up all around us. Note yesterday's Wapo article about Rove

said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (Va.)... "We knew history was against us, and he helped coordinate all of the accoutrements of the executive branch to help...

What history was against GOP ? Certainly not ours in US, the GOP had been winning, right ?

Not even our side has missed the obvious connection. Commondreams Robert Fisk notes

The Roman Empire is falling.... That, in a phrase, is what the Baker report says...

But I'll let Philip Atkinson do the explaining... Lucky for us, the loon of the FSM isn't shy about his ideas. Why would he ? He is pretty mainstream for a Bush Republican. Or was until recently... Here's what Phil wrote to blogger Gonzo muckracker when questioned about his article at FSM

Yeah, Rome is falling....

Please note that 911 was predicted by Arnold Toynbee in "A Study Of History" published in 1952, where he claimed that Western Civilization was declining, and as EVERY declining civilization became subject to attack by Barbarian War bands, then so would we.

But Phill has the solution! Monarchy, with a civil war if needed to spark it.

When Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon he declared war on the existing order, and he succeeded because it was generally believed by enough Ancient Roman citizens that drastic change was necessary for the good of all ancient Romans, and they were prepared to fight for this good. The ensuing civil war was the only way ancient Rome could change from a divided Republic to a united Monarchy

In case civil war is too unclear, Phil leaves no doubt. He is defending genocide of all that stand in the way.

genocide has been a tool used throughout history; nuclear weapons just make it quicker and easier. Certainly the ancient Roman Civilization, which supplied world peace, was founded upon mass murder. And Ancient Roman civilization was destroyed when it failed to maintain this policy of mass slaughter.

But it is all for a good cause.... Surely life under lib'urals is such a dreadful dark age that the millions slaughtered wouldn't mind... So long as someone in Podunk, MO doesn't die from a nuke.

The article published, then dropped, along with its author, by Family Security Matters, was aimed at finding a defence against the awful threat of anonymous nuclear attacks upon the USA. A solution must be found to this catastrophic probability if humanity is not to be plunged into a dreadful dark age

Perhaps the fella at Podunk, MO won't die from a nuke, Phill. I know for sure he will be hard pressed to survive lead in the water and food, tainted toys, a crumbling infrastructure, completely deregulated workplace security. That if he isn't drafted to one of the genocide missions you envision. And if he does survive, he would have to find a job that allows him to pay all those wonderful ARM mortgages our blessed empire has created. But no nukes... maybe.

Our buddy Phill has a book "A Theory of Civilization" (found at OurCivilisation.com), care to read it ? I've seen enough to last a lifetime!
